St Thomas More Catholic School, Willenhall, West Midlands, is celebrating after being presented with a £1000 prize-winning cheque. The school was entered into a competition to win the funds when ordering leavers hoodies for the class of 2023.

Angus Mitchell, Managing Director at the School Leavers Company said, “The competition had drawn interest from many schools across the UK, and it was a delight to be able to make a donation that will benefit the students of St Thomas More Catholic School.”

Mr K Dawson, Head of Key Stage 4, said on learning that their school had won the funds, “At first I thought Rachel (School Leavers Company) was contacting me to inform me about an issue with our leaver's hoodies order, once it sunk in that we had won the £1000 I was amazed and extremely grateful.”

Head Teacher Mrs S Bowen said, “Here at St Thomas More we are a tight-knit community and believe in supporting each other wherever possible. Our in-school Hardship Fund is designed to support those in need with school-related costs. With the current cost of living crisis, we need these funds more than ever and I was therefore very pleased to learn of the £1000 donation from our leaver’s hoodies supplier.”

St Thomas More has approximately 1500 pupils. The school will put the donation into their Hardship Fund. The Hardship Fund is used to support students with costs for items such as uniforms, equipment, books and trips and anything else that benefits a student’s ability to play a full part in school life.

The £1000 prize-winning cheque will go a long way in helping the students of St Thomas More Catholic School. The school is grateful to the School Leavers Company for their generous donation and for giving them the opportunity to win the funds.

Q&A

We asked Mr Dawson a few questions about leavers hoodies, here’s what he had to say:

SLC: Why do you organise leavers hoodies for your students?

Mr Dawson: Leaving school is a right of passage that we celebrate with our students. By organising leavers hoodies, the students feel a sense of community and they are proud to wear their hoodies with the school crest both around the time they leave school and for years to come.

SLC: Why do you use the School Leavers Company?

Mr Dawson: We have worked with the School Leavers Company for several years. As head of key stage 4 my day is extremely busy, and I needed to find a supplier that took the strain of organising hoodies for me. I have a great relationship with Rachel and the team who make it so easy for me, the customer service is excellent.

SLC: What features about the School Leavers Company do you like the most?

Mr Dawson: The free online shop. It is easily accessible for students, allowing them to effortlessly configure their own hoodies. It also means that orders can be placed across several pay days which makes things easier for parents and guardians to pay at a time that suits them best.

We also use the home delivery option which means we don’t have to handle the garments in school, when the order is ready all the students receive them directly to their home address at the same time.

The intricate school crest was embroidered onto hoodies for the school pilgrimage to Lourdes.

SLC: Any other comments about the School Leavers Company?

Mr Dawson: We also used Rachel and the team to supply trip hoodies for our Pilgrimage to Lourdes this year. These garments required an embroidered crest, we sent a badge to Rachel, and she was able to match all the thread colours perfectly. The students on the trip looked very smart when representing the school.
